Hacey Initiative is calling female applicants in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) areas of study to apply for the Code4Impact program funded by the US Mission in Nigeria.

Code 4 Impact is an experiential learning program that builds digital literacy, especially coding and analytical skills in 50 female students aged 18-24 in STEM fields in tertiary institutions in Lagos state to create community impact solutions around the new Global Goals.

This program aims to increase the number of young women who are actively involved in STEM fields and the number of secondary school girls who choose STEM fields as a future career.

The beneficiaries of this program will be grouped in clusters of 10 with 5 girls in each group. These groups will form the functional identities through the course of the training for collaboration on assignments and end of training projects. Each group will be assigned tutors and mentor developers who will help guide the beneficiaries on their projects.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be female Female
• Between ages 18-24
• Be in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics-related field
• Currently in a Tertiary institution in Lagos State
• Willing to dedicate 6 hours every Saturday
• Have access to a laptop
• Have regular access to internet

Rewards

All 50 Participants in the training program will develop their technology skills and develop community driven solutions to the newly adopted Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.

Charles Isidi relates his personal experience on stuttering and the view of society.....

Charles Isidi is a guy i have always admired, we attended the same secondary school and same university, he is a great writer and his brain specially formed with Gold, i feel he solves maths faster than a calculator, he does not nid a calculator to multiply 3815 multiplied by 506 unlike some of us who must use one. Charles never gives up, he is a fighter. I remember our secondary school days, he was in science class and i was in art class, admiring his smartness and intelligence, i decided to pop the question.....

Mr Aimiemode, 'hope i got the spelling of his name right o' our government teacher had just finish teaching us a topic 'Loi Cadre' meaning 'Outlined Law'.

Charles what is the 'Loi Cadre Gravitation', looking surprised, he replied what is that? and i smiled and said its science!  i left him feeling good with the mischief i had just created.

Never giving up! Charles had done all possible research and consulted his science teachers but to no avail, he walked up to me the other day and said, there is nothing like 'Loi Cadre Gravitation' and i replied 'Loi Cadre means Outline Law, so you are just suppose to tell me the outlined law of gravitation'

Stammering is my super power!

This is not intended to be a pity party, maybe it is... Lol. I've had this on my mind but for quite a while I've asked if it's worth sharing.

Yes you love what I write and thank God I've never had to send you a voice note, you just might freak out... Just kidding. Last night hurt and it hurt bad... I Was talking to a bus driver about my change and he started mimicking me... Poor guy, I just walked away.

I wrote this post for my primary school health education teacher; Mrs Idehen, i never forget a face, not hers I wouldn't, 11:30am before lunch break, she would call me every Tuesday and Thursday to read in front of the class, you remember that Ilesanmi book yeah, I would repeat my words uncontrollably and watch my classmates crack up, couldn't tell my dad and mum either, daddy wasn't ever a patient listener, in fact till date I feel like he doesn't know I stutter, we never spoke about it, he just plays deaf, my daddy is a better actor than George Clooney... mummy would just cut me halfway and start making me listen to how her day went, and ladies you should date me, I am a good listener, not because I like to, but because I... I... I... Have to and that's not all, I also offer you a whole lifetime's Ro Ro Romance. I forgive Mrs Idehen, Christ would want me to.

These days I don't stop buses screaming "stop" nah, I just knock on the bus, wouldn't want to give people free Comedy Central. and no don't tell me it's okay, do you know how many bus drivers are rich because I can't negotiate, or how I buy stuff from supermarkets because I can't handle arguing, that shii gets to me... Like bad!

Talking to Laurie Idahosa and Teajay Chunu sometime last year and Feb Jr walks in and passionately asks "mom, why is he repeating his words" Classic reply and two thumbs up "erm, he's got lots of things in his head, he thinks faster than he speaks" that got him off my back buh really...

Julibravo, you are a rat. Once when I discussed this with you, your foolish reply was... "i sorta love to listen to you, it's cool to listen to wisdom trickle in bits" whaaaaaaat.

Once at a radio show I almost declined in Enugu, a lady called in on the show to say "hey Charles, it's cool, how can someone stutter and be smart at the same time, wow!" it's cool to be the guy who breaks the jinx buh... Lady come on, are you saying, pardon me, 70 million people plus 5% of all kids born stutter, and you think 1 person can't be smart enough to solve algebra! Jesus, Gimme some credit, how about I say that 2^22 is 4194304 and no, I didn't use a calculator, it's simple arithmetic... Hahahahaha.

I don't think it's cool mimicking me or anyone for that matter, except you are my girlfriend and we are at a dinner date and I can't smear your make up with a hot slap... Yet.

Be nice, stay cool, don't do drugs... Without me, one more thing, I think MTN should give me more time on the phone, you think so yeah? Me too.

I actually stole the story from his facebook page because i feel he has so much to give us and if we have a lot of people like him, the world will be a better place.

REGISTERING FOR PMP EXAMINATION - THE JOURNEY

Considering my love for the Project Management profession and the need for professionalism in managing community development projects, i decided to take the PMP exams. Having access to an internet was not sufficient, unlike i thought, it was not as simple as filling out a form on 'google form', the registration was a major hurdle i needed to cross.

I got to know about the value of the PMP certification during my NYSC year, i have managed various project teams without actually knowing the depth of the profession, i had carried out community development projects without the actual education of how to manage them, though they were successful but could have been  better had i followed PMI framework for handling project and then i got hint of the Project Management Professional exams. I researched online and discovered that it was the exact education i needed to bring professionalism into what had become my passion.

I read about the Project Management Institute and decided to take the PMP exams to become a certified project manager. I can remember waking up that day so excited as i had planned to register as i visualised the registration process as just filling a form and making the necessary payment, i did not even read up the requirements for the registration but later that day as i sat in front of my computer and perused the PMI website, i met the brick wall - a new project, the PMP registration, a hard nut to crack.

After a hard time researching considering the fact that i did not have the money to pay one of those big project management school to help with the registration as they charged 60,000 naira on the average, I then discovered the solution, I successfully registered for my PMP exam without paying a dime to any one and without having to go through an audit process by PMI.

 I sat for the PMP exam on the 14th of September, 2015 and passed. It was very challenging but with the help of self study and other materials i downloaded,  i suceeded. Hence, i decided to share the secret with every other potential PMP credential holder and provide assistance as needed, comment on this post and send a mail to me at annabelobadan@gmail.com .

‘It is a habit I have cultivated since I was fourteen years old, I cannot stop it, it is my cross to bear, it is an addiction’ Folake said to herself trying to pacify her racing heart which refused slow down after been drowned in guilt.

Folake like many teenagers today had high hopes and aspirations while growing up, she was among the few of her peers that believed in keeping her body until marriage. Time passed,  flesh gaining grounds, she did not want to follow the band wagon by losing her virginity yet her inquisitive nature wanted to experience the pleasure her peers talked about. The social media was not helping matters, the internet has become sexually explicit, novels had fulfilled the quote ‘do not judge a book by its cover’, her friends where not helping matters.

And then Just Once, like Adam she tasted the ‘forbidden’ consoling herself after all I did not do it with a guy, and then she could not discontinue, this giant became a threat. It had become her source of inconsistency with God, her source of lack of concentration and her only excuse for not accomplishing her potential thus far then she remembered her pastors saying, ‘sexual immorality would either make you wise and you would desist or it would make you foolish’. Unfortunately, hers was a case of the latter, she had become foolish and gradually losing her conscience, masturbation had become a giant which was undefeatable in her eyes.

She loved God and was a dedicated christian she knew that this was the major reason she was not working in her full potentials, she felt helpless, she knew she was no different from others who had lost their virginity, she appeared decent but was felt dirty when people called her decent and when parents used her as an example to instruct their children.

Counselor Morayo took to the podium during the youth Sunday and her first sentence was ‘you say you truly love your Father yet you stab him at his back and then come to his front and say am sorry!’ ‘a paper and red ink test would help us see the impact of our unfaithfulness, put a red ink on the same plain paper every time you commit sexual immorality knowing in your heart that you had the power to avoid it’ ‘some people have spent above ten years of their life on this earth yet their brain still function like that of a day old baby who lacks will power’.

Knowing that those words were mean for her, she hid her head in shame and with her heart racing with guilt. She remembered what her pastor always says ‘have you asked the Holy Spirit?’ and she took the first step, she resolved that just like David conquered Goliath with catapult and stone, she was going to battle masturbation with ‘the holy spirit and  strong will’ once will is backed by the holy spirit what can be a road block! She said to herself.

It was not an easy task bit gradually she began to hate everything that had the tendency to pollute her spirit and kill her resolve, the red ink on paper served as her means of self-examination and the word of God never departed from her lips. She became victorious! The giant has been conquered.

 Advice yourself today, test your will and mix it with the Holy Spirit’s touch! You would be victorious.
